The conversion of the former TRANSA store in Zurich is an example of a circular approach to interior architecture and the transformation of existing buildings. Following the ZERO Waste principle, the store was transformed into a new context of use - with the aim of minimizing the use of new materials and intelligently reusing the existing.
Careful analysis and reuse of existing elements were at the heart of the transformation: furniture, shelving, fixtures, floor coverings and partitioning elements were not thrown away, but reused in a targeted way, recombined or integrated into another part of the space concept. They were supplemented by materials from deconstruction projects, thereby both closing the materials cycle and increasing the diversity of the design.
The project shows how design quality, functionality and resource conservation are not mutually exclusive, but instead enable new forms of aesthetics and use of space. The transformation of the TRANSA space is a model project for zero-waste interior design - local, pragmatic and forward-looking.
