The container pavilion on the Hardgut wasteland in Zurich-Altstetten is a temporary construction with a strong emphasis on reuse. The structure is made up of used shipping containers and recycled building components from various previous projects. The aim is to make the potential of circular construction visible and usable in real-life conditions.
The project serves as an example of resource-friendly planning and construction in areas of urban transformation. Instead of using new building materials, existing elements were systematically identified, tested and integrated into the project. This not only saves grey energy, but also demonstrates how reuse concepts can be implemented functionally, economically and creatively.
The pavilion is designed as a multifunctional space for events, exchanges and intermediate uses. It is exemplary of new construction processes in which stock becomes a resource and the circular economy the basis for sustainable urban development.
