2025.07.04

On July 8 at 5 p.m., SIA Zurich and Cirkla invite you to discover the provisional building of the cantonal school of the municipality of Uster - built with reused elements. Architect Benjamin Poignon of Baubüro In Situ will present the project and explain the specifics and challenges of this pilot project.

The cantonal gymnasium in Uster was recently extended with an innovative temporary building, meeting the high demands of new construction while setting new standards in circular construction. The new building, which will be in use for ten years, was designed by the architectural firm baubüro in situ as part of a pilot project run by the building authority of the Canton of Zurich.

Windows, fire doors, concrete elements, railings, facade and roof panels, and other elements were sourced and acquired. Thanks to the use of these repurposed materials, it was possible to reduce construction emissions by over 488 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent, compared with an equivalent volume of new construction.
